I wanted to share a recent video I made on the value of mathematics in building critical thinking and problem solving abilities. The video discusses how the process of solving math problems requires breaking down complex questions into smaller, more manageable pieces. This step-by-step analytical approach can then be applied to address challenges in everyday life.
Specifically, the video explores how mathematical concepts force you to methodically evaluate and tackle each component of a larger problem. This structures your thinking to better identify solutions. Learning math is about more than formulas and equations - it provides a framework for assessing multifaceted issues that can be adapted to situations in business, science, and more. You can also go to YouTube and find a timeless classic: Donald Duck in Mathemagic Land, a video I still enjoy as an adult.
But back to this video I made....I wanted to share it because I thought this video provided some thought-provoking ideas on how math equips students with vital, universally applicable skills. Please find the video linked below and let me know your thoughts after watching. I certainly love integrating these critical thinking tools into our various offerings.
